The Origin
๐Ÿ’™ Bill's Story: What He Was Trying to Teach Us

Every father wants to prepare his children for life.

Bill, Scott Carter's father, understood something profound: families work best when they work together, when everyone contributes, when children learn responsibility early. He wanted to teach his kids that they were part of something bigger than themselves โ€” a family business where everyone mattered.

What Bill Tried to Do

Bill organized the family as a business. He assigned chores, expected completion, and wanted to teach: responsibility, reliability, teamwork, work ethic, and the understanding that everyone's role matters. His intent was beautiful โ€” kids who would grow into capable, responsible adults.

What Made It Hard

The execution didn't match the intention. Like many fathers of his generation, Bill gave orders without explanation, assigned tasks without considering ability, and ruled autocratically โ€” "because I said so." This wasn't from lack of love. This was the parenting model of his time.

What Bill Really Wanted

โœ“ Kids who could take care of themselves
Not helpless adults who never learned basic life skills
โœ“ Financial responsibility
Understanding that money doesn't grow on trees, that work creates value
โœ“ Family cooperation
Everyone contributing, not just parents doing everything
โœ“ Capable, confident children
The pride of contributing, of being needed, of doing something well
"Dad, this is what you were trying to teach us. You were right. You were absolutely right. This software does what you wanted to do โ€” with the understanding that comes from decades of learning. We understand now. Thank you for trying. This one's for you."

Learn by Doing
๐Ÿ“š Financial Literacy

Bill wanted his kids to understand money. Short videos you can watch in a few minutes, interactive calculators that show real numbers, and concepts explained simply. Watch a video, then come back here and try it.

๐Ÿ’ต What is a Budget?

A budget is a plan for your money. Money comes in (income) and money goes out (expenses). When more comes in than goes out, you have savings. When more goes out, you have a problem that needs solving โ€” together.

โ†’ Try it: Go to the Family Budget tab and enter your family's real numbers

๐Ÿฆ Saving vs Spending

Saving means choosing future security over present wants. A family that saves together has options. The goal isn't to never spend โ€” it's to spend intentionally and save consistently.

โ†’ See it: Use the Compound Interest calculator

๐Ÿ’ก Needs vs Wants

Needs keep you alive and safe: food, shelter, medicine. Wants make life enjoyable: entertainment, treats, new things. Both matter. The skill is knowing which is which and budgeting for both.

๐Ÿค Fair Exchange

In an authentic exchange, both sides benefit. If a deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Every transaction should answer: "Is this fair to everyone involved?" If not, walk away.

โ†’ Try it: Use the Trust Evaluator to check any deal or offer

๐Ÿ“ˆ Compound Growth

Money saved and invested grows over time. A dollar saved today is worth more than a dollar saved next year. This is compound growth โ€” and it's why starting early matters so much. Even small amounts add up dramatically.

โ†’ See it: Try the Compound Interest calculator โ€” enter $1 and see what happens

โš ๏ธ Debt & Interest

Debt is the reverse of saving โ€” you're paying someone else for the privilege of using their money. Some debt is strategic (a mortgage). Most consumer debt is a trap. Interest works FOR you when you save and AGAINST you when you borrow.

โ†’ See it: Use the Debt Cost calculator to see what borrowing really costs

๐Ÿ›ก Emergency Fund

Life happens โ€” car repairs, medical bills, job loss. An emergency fund is 3โ€“6 months of expenses set aside. It's not optional; it's the foundation. Without it, one bad month can undo years of progress.

๐ŸŽฏ The 50/30/20 Rule

A simple framework: 50% of income goes to needs (rent, food, utilities), 30% to wants (entertainment, dining out), and 20% to savings and debt repayment. It's a starting point, not a prison โ€” adjust to your family's reality.

The Framework
๐Ÿ› Authentic Enterprise Economy

We don't have an economy โ€” we have an "expensory." Understanding the difference between extraction and authentic value creation is the foundation of financial wisdom for your family.

The Gross Revenue Model

In an authentic enterprise, gross revenue is allocated fairly: operating costs, fair wages, benefits, reinvestment, and profit sharing. When any one category consumes everything โ€” especially executive compensation โ€” the enterprise is extracting, not creating. Apply this lens to any business or institution your family interacts with.

WITH vs FOR/AT/TO

Every system reveals itself through this distinction. Does your employer work WITH you (fair wages, shared success) or extract FROM you? Does your bank serve WITH you or profit AT you? Teach your children to see this pattern everywhere โ€” it never fails to reveal the truth.

Co-Vending: The Give in the Sale

A genuine transaction includes generosity โ€” the baker who gives a little extra, the mechanic who explains what's wrong. When the "give" disappears from commerce, extraction has taken over. Support businesses that give, and be a family that gives.

Fair Employment

Everyone who works deserves fair compensation. Apply this at home: when family members contribute, their contribution is acknowledged and valued. This isn't about allowance โ€” it's about dignity.

Family as Authentic Enterprise

Your family IS an enterprise. It has revenue, expenses, labor, planning, and goals. The question is whether it operates authentically โ€” WITH each member โ€” or whether someone is extracting and others are bearing the cost. Bill's vision was authentic enterprise. Now you have the tools to implement it.

Family Protection
๐Ÿ›ก Trust Evaluator

Before your family acts on any offer, deal, letter, email, or communication โ€” run it through the Trust Evaluator. This tool identifies manipulation patterns, pressure tactics, and dishonest schemes that target families.
